MY 20’S—The best years of my life!

20's... that golden period. What are your thoughts on it? here's mine.

MY 20’S—The best years of my life!

People still look at me and think I’m 5 😒. I could be doing my service (NYSC) and people will still ask me, “what class are you in?” (like I’m in JSS3🤦🏾‍♀️). And even if I was, is Khaki’s the new primary school uniform 🤷🏾‍♀️(You can’t even guess if I’m about entering 100 level… I mean 🤦🏾‍♀️). Maybe it’s because of my height, or maybe it’s my face (apparently I have a baby face 🤔). Sometimes it has been given to how free and playful I am 😊. I used to get mad at it, because “How can you tell me to go back to SS1 when you see me writing WAEC” or “How can a 100level student come and ask me ‘where is our class?’—like I’m one of them (and that’s a true story)🤦🏾‍♀️

But I’ve come to realize it’s not so bad. I’m in my 20’s, you know, that youthful, vibrant period in your life, and people think I’m still in secondary school (High-school) 😔 but it doesn’t really matter at all. I believe what matters is your joy. Are you happy? Have your friends told you, ‘you laugh too much’ or ‘you smile too much’? have they considered you crazy (but in a good way😉)? Have they always wondered ‘where does this one get his/her strength from?’. If you’ve been questioned in or around the lines of the above, then you are in the club 🤝🏾. And my news for you is to stay that way📌.

I look back and I have only one regret—not always being this way from day one! But I’m here, you are here, we all are, and it’s the best time of our life! But the mistake we do, is thinking that our 20’s is that one period in your life. If being 20 is being vibrant and active and happy, I believe you can still achieve that in your 30’s, in your 40’s, in your 50’s, even in your 60’s!

Don’t go lifting weights and mountain climbing, then sprain your ankle and say Favour said I could be 60 and vibrant🙆🏾‍♀️ (I was never here🏃🏾‍♀️ ), but what I’m saying is, that happiness, that joy, that smile—don’t let it fade. It’s not the strength and physique only that makes your 20’s, it’s your smile too. In fact, I stand to put, it’s your smile ultimately.

So, I’ll drop that famous line when people go—life is too short, live it! Do what you can, when you can and how you can. Do what brings you joy, cause that’s what keeps your youthfulness alive. Don’t sit on that job, carry out that plan, hang with those friends or live that life you dread so much! You can feel it sucking the life out of you, draining you badly. Go find something you love doing, as a hobby maybe, change career if you must, and be happy. I still want to be this way when I’m 40. My friends should still laugh and say “You this girl ehn… you have not changed” and that would be in a good way 😁.

So, this is a toast—to my jumping times, my over hyper times, my comic times, my heartbreaks, my loves, my friends who will get tired of me, to my writing times and all my characters I will birth. To my husband who will be happy to have made the best decision ever! (he better put that in his speech), to my kids who will get me a ‘mom of the year mug’ (they better), to my dreams I will fulfil, to my God who has never failed, and to my 20’s—the best years in every year—cheers!🥂
