GOD AND A MAN- Short Story

Things are not always as we want them, but God wants us to know that irrespective of what we are going through, he knows and he cares. And he loves us too much to let us go. It's fighting to the finish with him when it comes to us, His children.

GOD AND A MAN—Short Story

“Give me your hand, let me help you”

“I don’t need your help”

“Please”

“I said I’m fine. I don’t need your help”

“Please”

“Go away!”

Silence.

“So you are willing to stay this way? You want to die?”

“If it keeps me away from you, then yes, I want to die” he said as he began pacing the room,

“You have to be calm”

“Easy for you to say, there’s nothing, absolutely nothing you to worry about”

“That’ not true. I spend my time, every night and day worrying about you. You are always on my mind”

“You are the worst liar that there is”

“How so? What have I said that is a lie?”

“Everything!”

“Like?”

“Everything!—I don’t know but everything” he said and began looking around the room, looking for a way out. Silence filed the room once more before the second person in the room spoke up.

“You are not going to find a way out”

“I can try”

“You can try me”

“Thanks but no thanks”

“I can help you”

“And for the millionth time, I said no!”. he looks up at the hole above him.

“That’s the way you came in, not the way you can go out”. He ignores the other person in the room and continues pacing. He stops mid track when he sees water entering the room from the door. He looks around and sees that the water as also started seeping in from the walls.

“What is going on?” he asked.

“This means your ship is sinking. Just take my hand. I’m here for you, why won’t you let me help you!”

“Because you’ve never been of any help to me…” he looks down then scoffs. “You, say you know it all? So don’t you know how hard life is? Can’t you see what I’m going through? And yet you do nothing about it! Haven’t I suffered enough? Or my tears are not long enough? Maybe it’s my please that are not loud enough” he says then goes back to searching the room for a way out with the water still entering the room. He then stops in his tracks.

“Everything has been a mess. Life, relationships, friendships, everything. I’m staring at the barrel of the gun; I can taste the end. Better I be dead than go through all of these. All you can tell me is how you gave me breath, of how you are bringing me to eternal life with you. Stories upon stories, excuses upon excuses. Heck, promises upon promises! Well just in case you haven’t noticed, I’m still in this pit called life! And it is bitter, and sad and cruel and I am tired!” he said in one breath. He sighs then sits on the floor.

“I never promised you a life full of trials, but what I promised was to be with you always. I know things are not easy, and I never said they would always be. It may seem like the world is crumbling, but that’s why I’m here, to take your burdens and give you rest. I love you, even though you cannot see it. But I’m not going to stop either. I want you to say yes, that is my heart’s desire. And I will keep trying”

“Why is life so hard” he asked as he started sobbing.

“Then let me help you! I want to help you but I can’t because you won’t let me”

he looks around and sees the water is reaching his legs and the pressure is increasing. He get’s up quickly and looks around him.

“It’s not going to stop. A sinking ship is a sinking ship… take another change at life, but this time with me. It will be worthwhile! Just take my hand”

He looks to the hand of the other person it in the room, that is stretched out to him. he looks back at the water then back to the hand, uncertainty in his eyes, hesitation in his steps. “I-will- not-let-you-down” the other person urged. He took his hands after much deliberation, and the other person in the room, walked him out of the water, through the door. When they got out, the other person turned to him.

“The only way we can make a difference, that I can be with you in your problems is if you trust me—Do you trust me?” the other person asked and he nodded. “Good. Now—take my hand” the other person added and the man took his hands again, and followed him, walking beside him.

The End

What we need is to trust him. it may not always look like it—the plan we had, the thing we prayed for. But at the end, He said He will be with us always! So, all we need to do is trust him.
